Done Downtown

Ok, apparently I'm running about a week behind. Now more downtown shots, soon it will be water images, which are really interesting, so I'll try not to have you on the edge of your seat for too long before they get posted.

Boston

Went to Boston on a Monday, still in line with my "Downtown" assignment. However, made this one fun because I go to meet up with an old friend for dinner.

Pretty Lights

Long exposure on Canal St, I think. This is still part of the series on "Downtown" shots that I did for class last week. This is when I really started to understand what my camera can do. It's not a horribly expensive camera, but it has lots of options to play with, and with patience, I think I can produce some good images.

A business deal on the Merrimack

Kevin (brother), Sarah (his girlfriend), and Brian (my husband, pictured left), agreed to do some modeling for me. I had them dress up nice and go to do weird things in downtown Manchester, on the Merrimack River (literally, they were standing on rocks), on the street, and in the library park.

Sarah was the adventurous one, with wadding in the water, and she also decided that the streets were too dirty and she wanted to vacuum them (or I convinced her, either story works).

Side note...

I have a lot of photos that would go with every post. However, there's a limited amount of space that I had to display them. Eventually, I will be including a link with every post to a photo album with similar pictures.

He was a skater boy

I went to Manchester's skate park a few weeks ago with a friend from my photo class. We had been taking pictures, and I came up with the idea of heading to the park. I didn't know exactly where it was, but I knew it was somewhere downtown. We drove around for a bit, and for the record, it is on Maple St, behind JFK.
It was a gorgeous day out, and about an hour after school had let out. There were a ton of kids, and my friend and I bucked up and asked if we could take pictures. The boys, loving to have a reason to show off, said sure, and started skate boarding, biking, roller blading, and even one kid had a razor (like a skateboard, but with a handle).

Downtown Manchvegas

Welcome to the North End of Elm Street, aka the beginning of downtown Manchester. This is technically an assignment for class, but I'm not sure of the angle I want to go with it. I love the curves of the photograph, and below there's a juxtaposition of a building with straight lines.

Coming up soon are some downtown Manchester shots. I went out shooting tonight, and hopefully captured some decent images that are worth posting.

There's only so much of a small college campus that you can make interesting in fading light.

Macro Flowers

I had to learn how to actually use the special macro lens on my camera. After about half an hour of blurry shots, I realized I wasn't in focus at all because I wasn't close enough!


These flowers are in my parents backyard, and the depth of field is limited by the lens I have. I love the vibrancy of the colors. They are just pretty shots, nothing too special or amazing, just comforting and nice.

Just for fun

I just thought this was entertaining- it was a candid shot while working in class with several other photographers.

First "Official Assignment" Self Portrait

It seems like this is the overall favorite where I look the "prettiest." I had assistance with this photo, as it was compose by me, by my lovely husband pressed the shutter. Maybe that's why I look so pretty, as it is me seen through his eyes.
This one to the left is my favorite. It was a difficult shot to get, as it is not easy taking photographs with only one hand, and a dirty hand at this. Some "symbols" that need to be explained- on my ring finger is my Mother's ring, with two stones representing my deceased twin babies, and the three bracelets were given to me by my mother after the death of my paternal grandmother. Myself, my sister-in-law, and my mom each received a set of the same bracelets. Beneath the dirt is the remains of my placenta, which I buried in the garden of my mother's house. There's a lot of motherhood in this photo, and many generations of women involved.

New Mexico, something past

This is my favorite picture from New Mexico. It is on the Acoma Indian Reservation, and it has something to do with kivas. I'm not entirely sure what it is, it has something to do with men in caves, and it seems like it's not used to often anymore.


Below are a few more shots, and yes, the snow is New Mexico is May, not New Hampshire, even though it looks like the White Mountains- it was snowy, rainy, and hailing that day in the mountains, and the next day was

I'm currently enrolled in a digital photography class for the summer. We have assignments each week for homework (after all, is it technically a college class, and not just having fun), but I will have extra photos that don't have a home in class, or maybe have a few special photos I want to share with a story..
